As I am getting ready for another volunteer acupuncture trip, I’m reminded of a passage from a book I read a while ago. This is an excerpt from a book by Dan Millman called Living on Purpose.

“We can control efforts, not outcomes. Serenity, patience, and wisdom are born of this understanding: We cannot directly control people, events or results. We cannot control whether we sink a putt, win a game, find love, succeed in business, or create world peace. But by making the effort we vastly improve the odds of achieving what we desire. No matter what we think or feel, doubt or fear; despite our past or parents; our efforts still shape our lives. Doing your best is a job well done. So make the effort, then accept the outcomes. Let go of what you can’t control”

I’m reminded of this passage while overseas, that I shall give the best I can, help where it is needed, and give to those who ask.

Good luck to all us of, who dare to do great things. The “glory” is in the attempt. Glory is not in the outcome.

    Be well, all of you

Well, our volunteer acupuncture Guatemala trip is a “Go”. We will be in Guatemala for the month of August volunteering in a hosiptal by day, then in the local village in the afternoons. We will be volunteering out time, materials, herbs and energies. We will staying with local villagers on Lake Atilan and working with many doctors and local healers. This overseas acupuncture trip should be amazing since this is the first time our free medical camp will be in a hosiptal setting. We will be working side by side with Western trained doctors. Stay tuned for fabulous pictures and comments, as the next step is taken to give free healthcare to so many and to educate the locals about acupuncture.

    Be well all of you.

Acupuncture volunteer was published by Pacific Rim College. Please see below. We thank Pacific rim college for spreading the word of healing around the world.

Please read below the newsletter and our article that was published..

Last month PRC launched the Community Herbalist Program, our 6th program, and 2 more are slated to be released within the next few weeks. We are growing, in some ways by leaps and bounds, and we are excited to be bringing new services and opportunities to the Victoria community and beyond!

While we continually strive to achieve academic excellence, we are keeping ourselves very busy with other pursuits including humanitarian work and community events. We are currently working closely with the James Bay Community Project, the PanAfrican Acupuncture Project and the Environmental and Community Health Organization to name a few, all in the hope of bringing integrative health services to those in need.

In September PRC helped orchestrate and host a successful free public education session for Alembic Healing Arts Centre, and in May of 2009 we will be the premiere sponsor of what has twice before proven to be Victoria’s most ambitious integrative health conference.

As this year draws to a close, we are making preparations for a group of students to travel overseas to provide free acupuncture services at one of PRC’s Global Outreach clinics. It seems like we only just returned from Global Outreach clinics in Tanzania and Uganda, but it has been more than half a year. As our student body grows, so too does the interest for more GOP sites and opportunities in developing parts of the world. We will keep you updated on developments.

As always, thanks for your readership. Enjoy the newsletter!

    Sincerely,

    Todd N Howard, President

    Notes from the Field
‘Is it just the heat or did I just walk into an oven?’ I asked my friend as we stepped off the plane in India. ‘Oh, get used it. It’s September. It doesn’t cool down in India till November,’ she replied. So began our journey into the heart of India to treat the untreated masses.

This trip was the inaugural voyage of One Day Closer (ODC), a nonprofit that provides acupuncture and Chinese Medicine to those in need. We had raised over $44,000 in herbal supplies from Evergreen Herbs, another $8,000 in cash and 400,000 needles from Helio. Our community generously supported this endeavour; we asked companies, schools, teachers, friends, families, and we even donated ourselves. We took numerous seminars to help us with all the difficult situations we would see. (…more)

Comments? Suggestions? We want to hear your thoughts on how we are doing so we can tailor our services to better suit the needs of our students and the general public. Please send your feedback to info@pacificrimcollege.ca.

We just returned from Vietnam. My self and a western doctor went. We treated side by side using a 3000 year old medicine and 200 year old medicine to exact a better healing process. It was unbelivalbe. Medically, spirtually, emotionally….??? wow, i cant believe i waited that long to go see such an amazing country and to spend time with such wonderful people! Please see more about vietnam in our “Past medical” camps. We worked each day treating 50-80 people a day, and in the evening our host friends and families treated us like no other. We were their over the Chinese New Year, Tet and it was amazing! I always enjoy when not only do we learn so much medically, but then to share in the culture of the people! I cant wait to go back!

One of the amazing things about vietnam was how much the people wanted us to stay and to come back. We have started working on funding and or building a free hospital in Vietnam. We are trying to coordinate future trips back that the group would be treating in the first acupuncture hospital/free hospital in vietnam. It is quite an undertaking, but we have started the process. Regardless, we will continue to go back and provide free acupuncture, whether it be in the Buddhist temple, up the river to a farm in the Mekong delta, the local church, or the open air restaurant where we treated who was in need.

So where will 2009 take us? 2010? 2011? The world is limitless! People need free healthcare everywhere, internationally and right here at home! Stay tuned for more exciting adventures.
