Volunteering at home
Portland, Oregon (Local ongoing volunteer project)

After returning from India, I knew that I couldn’t just stop volunteering. This medicine needs to be shared and given to all those in need. So, once I had established my private practice in Portland, I started serving 1 day a week at the Courtyard retirement community. The treatment group consists of about 10 or so regulars and I always get new people coming down to try it out. The people here are amazing! One of my newest clients is 96! It was her first time ever trying acupuncture! It was so inspiring, that at 96 this woman is still up for new experiences and is still “living life” each day. Another one of my patients was the first Mt. Hood ski patrol guide and they have named a lift at Timberline Ski area after him. There are so many amazing people here! They have lived through Wars, the Great Depression, the invention and growth of Cars, exploration of the Moon, segregation and desegregation, women gaining the right to vote, the roaring 20’s, 30’s,40’s, the Spice Girls and the iphones! What a remarkable bunch of people! I treat them with Chinese medicine, and it amazes them. They teach me, and share with me all the views that one acquires while living such a full life! It is truly a partnership and i am lucky that I can donate to these remarkable folks! Thank you Courtyard! You have been so generous to me and I’m glad you are all getting better!
If any local acupuncturist would like to volunteer at the Courtyard please email me at(brad@acupuncturevolunteer.com) . We can always use more volunteers. A typical day is about 2-3 hours of treatment, and we usually see 8-15 people. It’s a great way to give back, learn, and make great friends. I hope to hear from you.
We are also working on a free or low cost project for Veterans returning from their theaters of war. Please check back frequently to see our times, places and dates.
