Instruction
“I feel the biggest challenge that faces me, us, all modern day Acupuncturists, is our ability to treat 1000’s of patients with numerous, difficult diseases. We need the experience, we need the variety, and we need repetition. The experience and confidence to treat effectively and successfully in our practices’ is only gained by treating 1000’s and 1000’s of people”
– Brad whisnant
Overseas practice is a wonderful start for a beginner or a seasoned professional wishing to gain more experience in a short period of time. Most practitioners treat less than 2000 people a year. At our free medical camps, you will be treating about 2000 people a month! You will gain the necessary confidence and varied clinical experience necessary to treat successfully back home in your private practice.
Most acupuncturists are taught a method where needles are inserted directly into the area of pain. The trouble with this approach is that one runs the risk of aggravating the pain, and that the results are not consistent or reliable.
One Day Closer offers the ability to practice the oldest and most recognized style of acupuncture in the world! This Distal method is over 2,500 years old and is derived from the I Ching, one of the oldest books in the world. The acupuncture points used are on the scalp and ears, from the elbows to the fingers, and from the knees to the toes. Consequently, the patient never has to take off their clothes and the treatments are efficient, comfortable and extremely effective. While overseas, the distal method is a quick, effective way to treat many people in a short period of time. In most countries, we will not have the option of having people undress, nor will we have access to certain body parts. With the distal method, our treatments will use the limbs, ears, and scalp to treat the “whole body”.
You will be shown the “distal method” as I learned it, through many seminars and classes, taught by Dr. Tan. This incorporates the use of holographic systems for point selection references, techniques from the Neijing for distal point needling, and use of classical point categories and point coupling techniques to enhance therapeutic effect. We will practice channel relationships, channel balancing, ba gua balancing and the 12magical concepts.
I am also always learning the Dao Ma method. I will share what i have experienced. The Dao Ma Needling Technique of Master Tung Ching-Chang, was one of the clinical methods he most frequently employed. This technique can succinctly be stated as follows: three points are needled simultaneously to profoundly ‘obtain qi’ (De Qi) and rapidly effect a cure. Dr. Tung did not greatly concern himself with ’supplementing’ (Bu) or ‘draining’ (Xie) needle techniques, but rather with powerfully ‘obtaining qi’ (De Qi) to influence the ‘Reaction Areas’ of the points needled. In this style of acupuncture, the more you obtain the qi, the quicker you got results. (Master Tungs lecture on Acupunture)
We will also focus on “reaction area” neurophysical acupuncture. This reflects the knowledge of the delicate energy of the body and the neuroanatomical and neurophysiologic aspects of the body. This acupuncture style also corrects and heals the body through the manipulation of the peripheral and central nervous system by affecting the neuraxis, the actual anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology of the body. (advanced Tung Style Acupuncture)
I am forever a student. I am always learning and by no means have the right or the ability to teach anybody. What Im willing to share is my personal experience, my time, and what i have seen work and not work in my overseas experience. This is what i charge for while overseas. I take a few fellow acupuncturists and spend my time showing them what i have experienced. This is by no means a “formal” , Im not teaching a Dr. Tan or Master Tung class. I am merely sharing my personal experience of acupuncture that i have experienced while treating overeseas.
I was taught TCM acupuncture at my acupuncture college but I soon realized my passion lay in “distal needling”. I have learned, and am continually learning, this method from various teachers. I have been fortunate enough to have been introduced to the distal method at an early part of my Chinese medical training. I typically incorporate the distal method, with Dao Ma techniques, bleeding, scalp, and hand acupuncture. All these types of acupuncture are based off the same distal techniques and theories that I have learned from these generous masters.
Treating overseas is the perfect place to practice this effective technique. You will be seeing 50 people a day with back pain, not two or three. You will be treating 30 cases of shoulder pain, or knee pain in one day, not 30 cases in a month. The intensity and repetitiveness are necessary to hone these techniques. You will be able to test out your knowledge and skills on a daily basis, on numerous patients. You will be treating complex internal disorders all day, every day, not just reading about the theory.

There is a nominal fee, but im more excited about sharing and working together with each person. Please let me know while on your trip if you want any help or advice. This instruction is available to only a few people on each trip. You and I will be treating patients together. We will be talking strategies and ideas as we work together to get 100% success on each patient. You won’t find a better “classroom” anywhere. This is hands on, difficult cases, individual tutoring. Please see our “volunteer form” for personal instruction.
“I am not a teacher; only a fellow traveler of whom you asked the way. I pointed ahead of myself as well as of you”
George Bernard Shaw
For a fraction of what most programs charge to take medical practitioners overseas where you will merely observe, come join One Day Closer and get “hands on experience” with thousands of patients. Why spend years trying to understand whether or not your techniques work? Put them into practice on 100 people a day!
